About the Firm
A Practice Built on Patience and Precision
Bijak Counsel was founded on the conviction that intellectual property work calls for careful thought, honest counsel, and a genuine understanding of each client's circumstances.

How Bijak Counsel Came to Be
Bijak Counsel was established in Kuala Lumpur by a group of IP professionals who had observed a recurring difficulty: businesses in Malaysia — from young startups to established enterprises — often lacked access to IP advice that was both technically sound and clearly explained.
The founding team had worked across MyIPO prosecution matters and regional filing programmes for several years before deciding to form a focused practice. The name bijak, meaning "wise" or "knowledgeable" in Malay, reflects the approach they set out to bring: thoughtful analysis ahead of any filing decision, and honest guidance throughout each matter.
Over the years, the firm has assisted clients ranging from individual inventors to publicly listed companies in organising, protecting, and in some cases rebuilding their IP positions. The focus has remained consistent — diligent work, transparent advice, and communication that respects the client's time and intelligence.
The practice is based in Jalan Ampang and serves clients throughout Malaysia as well as international entities seeking to file or maintain rights in this jurisdiction.

What Guides Us
Our Mission & Values
The standards we hold ourselves to, and the principles that shape our work with every client.
Clarity Above All
Legal matters are often complex. Our commitment is to make the process as understandable as possible, providing written summaries at each stage and welcoming questions throughout.
Measured Counsel
We do not advise clients to file applications unless the circumstances justify it. Our role is to help you make well-informed decisions, not simply to process applications.
Strict Confidentiality
All matters are handled with full professional discretion. Information shared in the context of obtaining legal advice is treated as privileged from the first conversation.
Accessible Expertise
Our practitioners work directly with clients rather than delegating substantive matters to junior staff without supervision. You have a consistent point of contact throughout your engagement.
Ongoing Stewardship
IP protection is not a single transaction. We monitor registered rights, flag renewal deadlines, and maintain a long-term view of each client's portfolio as their business evolves.
Regional Awareness
Beyond Malaysian filings, we understand the regional IP landscape and coordinate with trusted practitioners in other ASEAN and PCT jurisdictions when cross-border protection is relevant.
The People

Standards We Uphold
Professional Quality & Conduct
Our work is governed by professional obligations and internal standards that protect client interests at every stage.
MyIPO Registration
Practitioners are registered agents with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia, meeting the qualification requirements under applicable IP legislation.
Documented Work Product
Every matter produces written deliverables — search reports, strategy memos, prosecution summaries — so the reasoning behind every recommendation is on record.
Data Privacy Compliance
Client data is handled in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). We maintain appropriate technical and procedural safeguards.
Deadline Management
IP matters are governed by statutory deadlines. Our team maintains a tracked calendar system with advance notifications to protect your rights from unintended lapses.
Continuing Education
IP law and practice evolve. Our practitioners participate in professional development programmes and monitor updates from MyIPO, WIPO, and relevant judicial decisions.
Transparent Fee Disclosure
Fees and disbursements are disclosed before any substantive work begins. We do not commence work without written confirmation of scope and cost.
Our Expertise
Intellectual Property Counsel in Malaysia
Bijak Counsel operates at the intersection of law, commerce, and creative endeavour. Intellectual property rights — trademarks, patents, copyrights, and industrial designs — form the foundations of brand value and competitive advantage in the knowledge economy. Securing those rights in Malaysia requires navigating the procedures and timelines of MyIPO, understanding the classification systems under the Nice and IPC frameworks, and crafting applications that hold up to examination.
Our practice focuses on three core areas: trademark filing and prosecution, patent prosecution assistance, and portfolio strategy. These areas reflect the most common and pressing needs we encounter among Malaysian businesses and international clients operating in the region. Each discipline demands a different kind of attention — trademarks require brand-centric thinking and classification expertise; patents require technical literacy and claim drafting skill; portfolio strategy requires a systems view of how rights interact and where value is created or lost.
Clients come to Bijak Counsel at different stages of their IP journey. Some arrive with a single mark they wish to register before launching a product. Others come with a portfolio of rights accumulated over years that has never been reviewed in a structured way. A growing number are technology companies preparing for funding rounds where IP health is subject to scrutiny. In each case, our approach begins with listening before advising.
Operating from Kuala Lumpur, we serve clients across Peninsular and East Malaysia as well as foreign entities for whom Malaysian IP coverage forms part of a wider regional or global programme. We collaborate with correspondent agents in other jurisdictions when clients need coverage beyond Malaysian borders.
